Our cheap homelight backpack blower died, and while I'll rebuild the carb and get it running, it'll still just be a glorified gas powered hair dryer. So I spent some time looking into getting a mid sized backpack blower and wound up with the Husqvarna 350BT.

I basically narrowed my choices down to Stihl 380, the comparable Echo, and the Husky 150 BT or 350 BT, which seem to be the same model. The Husky is just a Redmax EBZ5100 with orange plastic and a slightly different backpack system.Redmax has had a great rep among commercial users for a long time, so I can understand why husqvarna bought them and rebadged it.

Anyway, I ruled out the Stihl 380 since the echo and husky perform closer to the Stihl 420 but cost a bit less. The 380 and 420 seem to be essentially the same blower with different tubes. So I can't see why there's a $100 price difference. They have the same engine, and the same specs at the housing, but at the tube end the 420 has more volume. The Stihl is also an older design, but in it's favor, it's proven to be essentially bulletproof.

As far as how it works, it's an amazing product compared to the homelight, and the time we save clearing leaves makes me wish we'd bought it a long time ago.I really can't see making a decision based on the $30 price difference between the brands, so I chose the one I liked best based on performance and perceived noise. These light commercial grade blowers are all so close, I think the best advice is to pick the one that has a good dealer close by.

The is a fabulous addition to the yard.I use it hard and even took it completely apart and got it back together again (although this is not recommended for the faint of heart).I have never had to have it repaired and will get a tune up for the first time in 2 years.Love it. One thing to watch out for is running sod through it...the wet dirt gathers in the bottom of the blade area - see sentence two for the result!!I can also say that I have ground up a number of trees and limbs which is an huge ecological saving for the dump.

Husqvarna 223L 18-Inch 24.5cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer Review

Husqvarna 223L 18 inch 24.5cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer

I just bought the 223L to replace a 5 year old, lightly used Echo SRM-210i which froze-up (piston is hung in the cylinder). Wished I had bought the Husqvarna when I bought the Echo.

Pros:
* Easy to start and stay running. (The Echo would start easy but it would tend to stall (and sometimes quit until it warmed up.)
* Very lightweight.
* Easy to maneuver - it just glides across the ground.
* Powerful - this machine cuts through 1/4" brush with no problems using stock string.

Cons: Only has a two year warranty compared to Echo's 5 years. However, the place I bought the Husq (Home Improvement store starting with L) had a 3 extended warranty for $39. The total price of the Husqvarna and the extended warranty was about in line with Echo's compatible model (which has a smaller engine).

Ariens (22") Walk Behind Gas String Trimmer (ST622) - 946150 Review

Ariens Walk Behind Gas String Trimmer - 946150
Average Reviews:

I've used a lower quality wheeled Poulan trimmer VERY extensively for several years. Ended up virtually destroying it through hard use. Purchased the Ariens from Home Depot and found it to be very good quality and apparently much more durable. I am 6' tall and the handle is much too low at longest setting and awkwardly shaped. Other gripe is that this model is difficult to change string because you can not simply tilt the trimmer back onto the handle to raise the string head due to a large head angling handle sticking out at the rear. You have to turn the machine onto its side/wheel. In this orientation, gas and/or oil sometimes (not too often) can leak out. Last gripe is that the cutting height is NOT easily adjustable. You have to get a socket and remove the cutting head, then add or remove bushings, then replace head. Probably a a more durable solution in the long-term though. Otherwise, it's a great functioning machine all things considered. None of the competing models is really any better overall.

Husqvarna 125B 28cc 2-Stroke 170-MPH Gas-Powered Handheld Gas Blower Review

Husqvarna 125B 28cc 2-Stroke 170-MPH Gas-Powered Handheld Gas Blower

I previously owned an electric blower and then I had the Poulan Pro PPB300E that worked fine for the first couple of times I used it. Then for the next two years it was very hard to start, the engine would not run properly and had to keep it running mingling with the throttle and choke, and when it ran it did not seem to blow as it should have. Now it finally gave its ghost, the engine locked up. Since it was not worth fixing it, I went out and bought the Husqvarna 125B
I had a few surprises:
- At the first touch I noticed how much lighter is than the Poulan. After mounting the air pipe and nozzle, although is so light, it feels "solid".
- The starting rope can be pulled very easily. In fact so easy that at the first pull, I put my back into it and pulled so hard that I reached the end of the rope probably and the handle just flew out of my hand. I know... you're not supposed to do that, but it didn't seem to have hurt it.
- It started at the third pull, which I think is great for a brand new motor.
- Thereafter, I stopped and restarted as I was cleaning the yard several times, and every time it started at the first pull.
- The air speed and the blowing pattern seem to be very good because the dirt blows away really fast, significantly faster than the other blowers I used.
- I love the throttle being mounted on the handle as it gives you nice control over the air speed, especially when you are close to the finish and try to pile up the dirt. Also I love that it has a "cruise control" lever, which you can move to get the desired speed and then you don't have to hold the throttle, which is helpful on larger areas.

I see nothing wrong or that I would liked changed yet, so the only question remaining is how long it will last.

One note: I really do not see what is the difference between the 125B and 125Bx. The 125BVx is the same but comes with a vacuum kit.

I have a half acre yard and a small lawn tractor. This spreader has met my needs and exceeded my expectations; it was easy to clean and light weight. I was able to hang it from the garage ceiling so that it would not use floor space.I am pleased with my purchase.
