(unlike the nylon gear that it replaced) I did one thing different to replace the gear. I did not use the 4 screws/nuts to fasten the new gear. I carefully drilled the rivet ends just enough to pry the old gear off. Drilled the new gear rivet holes slightly larger (try to fit your new gear first to see whether this is necessary), to allow the new gear to slip into position over the existing protrudingrivets. (which actually extended through & slightly above the recessed holes of the new gear) I then clamped the new gear firmly into position with C-clamps, and carefully braised the tops of the 4 rivets to form a secure cap in the recess of each of the 4 rivet holes of the new gear leaving the surface of the gear smooth & flush. The reason for this, was that it was very fast and secure, compared to possibility of having to drill out 1 to 4 'rusted in place' 2" rivets, without a drill press, if a pin punch didn't do the job. This was very easy & quick & is holding beautifully. The most time consuming part of this job was replacing the starter gear. I finally found an extra hand for that.
